Senior Parade
Last week, I mentioned the graduation walking parade.  I wanted to  make sure to include all of our district’s graduating seniors in this incredible event.  So once again, the senior walking parade is on again this year!  SRO Brien Reed has done a great job of coordinating this event for our students.  The parade takes place on June 8th beginning at 10:30 am.  You can click HERE for an informational flier that will be shared with the community.

NCTA Awards
This week NCTA hosted two Academy Awards nights. These events were a time to celebrate the many accomplishments of students completing a preparatory CTE program. Congratulations to these juniors and seniors!!  Did you know we have 52 MVSD students (from Aspire Academy, Skagit Academy, NCTA Open Doors and MVHS) enrolled in NCTA!

TK Students learn about farming
Students from our elementary schools learned about the importance of farming from a local farmer.  Local farmer Mr. de Vries let students have a turn at cultivating the dirt, sowing seeds, and then seeing the end result.  Many of our students have parents who work on farms like de Vries, and this was a great opportunity for our students to have this experience. Thank you, Mr. de Vries for giving our students this opportunity.

Maestros para el Pueblo
On Thursday night, we had the honor of gathering at Skagit Valley College to celebrate and recognize 14 graduates of the Maestros Para el Pueblo program. Maestros Para el Pueblo is a partnered "Grow Your Own" program that provides a pathway which encourages and supports bilingual and Latinx students to fulfill their higher education goals of becoming a certified teacher, educator, and role model for our K-12 school districts in the Skagit Valley Community. I was joined by Robert Hand (Mount Vernon High School Careers in Education teacher and Maestros Navigator), Michael Sampson (Burlington Edison Recruiting Washington Teachers and Maestros Navigator), Flora Hernandez Morales (Skagit Valley College Maestros Navigator) and Daisy Padilla Torres (Western Washington University Maestros Navigator). We are excited to continue supporting our Maestros students in their educational pursuits and look forward to the day when we can welcome them back as colleagues.

MVHS Scholarship and Awards Night
The Senior Awards and Scholarships Evening of Excellence on Wednesday night continued our season of celebrating the Class of 2022 with a phenomenal demonstration of the Bulldog Spirit. It would not have been possible without Johnny and his custodial crew, the dynamic duo of Paige and Delinda from the College & Career Center doing all the things, Mandy and her Child Development students, Ramon and his sound system, the Counselors handing out awards, the World Language Testing trio of Veronica, Yesenia, and Taisa, Lisa Harpel calculating Distinguished honors, Gaby and Stacy Lewis ordering all of the medals, Vennessa and Marie running the reports for the awards, the National Honor Society students for the prep and set-up, Zoie Youngren for her singing of the National Anthem, Tim and Skagina photographers Abby Pepper and Anneliese Mejia, the guest speakers of Heath, Kendra, Armando, and Stacy, as well as all of the staff who stayed an extra 90 minutes to share Department Award stories! Lastly, if you see Melanie Fuimano, Edwin Cholula-Ortiz, and Leydi Hernandez-Quiros, give them kudos for emceeing the celebration for 3+ hours without it feeling like it was 3+ hours. And a HUGE thank you to Kiera Wright for her organizational skills, planning, communicating, coordinating and hard work making this event a success! Go Bulldogs!!!
